Sculptra in Los Angeles
Sculptra is a relatively new FDA-approved filling agent used to add volume to the face and reduce fine lines such as those that occur on the mid cheek and on the crepe-like skin under the eyes. As we age, many people lose volume in their cheeks and under their eyes. Sculptra can restore this volume to give the face a more youthful appearance.
Sculptra is injected into the junction between the middle and deep layers of the skin. Once there, it stimulates the dermis (the second layer of skin) to thicken. Thickening the dermis makes it stronger, so it doesn't wrinkle as easily.
Sculptra treatments take about 30 minutes and are done in the office. Prior to treatment, the affected areas are outlined and anesthetized. Sculptra is then injected. There is some mild swelling after treatment which subsides in a few days. The swelling is not so pronounced that it would prevent one from performing their usual daily routine, and many patients actually like the mildly swollen appearance because it gives them a fuller look. After the initial swelling subsides, the dermis gradually thickens over the next few weeks to months. There may also be mild bruising after the treatment.
For optimal results, most patients require 1 - 3 treatments spaced at least 4 weeks apart depending on the severity of volume loss being replaced. Results last about 2 years.
